Can food really cool you down?
To answer the question in the title right away: yes, food can really cool you down. Dehydration and increased body temperature due to summer heat can, among other things, be prevented or alleviated by food. Here are some foods you can consume to lower your body temperature and cool down.
- Water: although it might not technically be food, water is extremely important, so we decided to include it at the very top of the list. The body needs fluids for various metabolic processes. Therefore, we should consume at least 1.5 liters of water daily, and even more during the summer.
- Cucumbers: cucumbers are mainly composed of water (96%). Therefore, cucumbers are great for cooling down and hydration.
- Watermelon: this favorite summer snack also contains a lot of water, as well as antioxidants and various other nutrients.
- Avocado: avocado is very easy to digest, which means less energy expenditure for the body. Additionally, it contains monounsaturated fatty acids that help remove excess toxins and heat from the blood.
- Coconut: coconut water contains electrolytes, making it ideal for rehydration and boosting energy.
